It was curious indeed, how this vampire spoke about her power. He didn’t doubt that if she did learn to harness it some other way that he wouldn’t want to get in her way, or on her bad side. That was, of course, if he ever believed it was possible. It was stupid to think that he wouldn’t believe everything she was telling him; he was not normal, and nor were most other occupants of this city. Why shouldn’t he believe in magick, too? Couldn’t magick just be some form of undiscovered science?
But he couldn’t help but believe her, and be completely serious, when she uttered her words with such confidence and conviction. He had a way of reading people, and she was not lying to him. But he did wonder why she hadn’t tried already, to harness her power some other way. Did she lack the energy, or the desire to learn?
Throughout the entire conversation she hadn’t seemed too phased about the loss of one life for another. But maybe she’d learned to act that way, hiding her disappointment and derision. Who could really know these things, unless intimately connected?
And of course, being what she was, she’d be able to tell that he wasn’t exactly human. In a way he was human, though, thoroughly so. He was vulnerable to the same human weaknesses, and could die a very human death. But he did have powers beyond that of an ordinary human, and though human food and drink kept his body properly nourished, he needed other things to keep his mind and soul nourished.
And he supposed with her particular brand of power, she’d be able to pick on the extra signals.
“You know, that’s a very good question. I’ve never actually been told what I am, and have done a hell of a lot of research to try and figure it out. The closest I could come...” He started, eyeing her warily as he paused... should he really go on and tell her? Why the hell not?! He’d spent his whole life keeping this secret, though he had no reason to. And maybe she’d have something new to add.
“The closest I could come was to describe myself as an incubus.” He said, testing the word out on the air, licking his lips after uttering it. He’d relaxed further into the chair, and he now watched her with an avid curiosity, to see how she might react. There was a flash of something in the depths of his eyes—a silver hue of power, like lightning.
Of course he doubted he’d survive if he had to battle it out with a vampire, but he would go down trying, if it ever came to that.
