She deserved it. If he threw her across the room then lunged after her, beating her with those fists that she knew could break even the hardest men, and sent her off to some Covenant House bruised and shattered then she would have only had it coming. She brought upon herself, whatever revenge he saw fit. She couldn't deny him that after what she'd done. Damaged him. Injured him. Moore, her Moore, who chose to spend his evenings with her instead of the women in clubs and bars. Women who would throw themselves at him without hesitation, who were street smart and world wise and jaded. Who were human and fragile. Somehow in that moment all the confidence that she'd had in herself and knowledge of why she had been entrusted with the key to his apartment vanished. She was a strong, deadly, immortal monster. Who would want that except another of her kind? Not him, not her oh so mortal Moore. Wouldn't he rather a woman who he could protect and defend, not one who he needed to defend himself from? Already in her mind she could see it playing out. Him quietly asking for his key back. Or maybe simply changing the locks.
He was shaking. Rhiannon wanted to hold him, to wrap her arms around him. Reassure him but she felt it would do nothing. She'd just attacked him and now he trembled in fear of her. Or maybe it was the aftermath of their sex. She almost wished that he would hurt her. Simply get it over with. Cast her out of his life now and not prolong it by keeping her in his bed - the bed she might never warm again. Then she got her wish, or so it seemed.
Julian's hand was on her throat and she sucked in a sharp breath at the pressure. He wasn't cutting her off entirely, not that it would matter if he did. But for a moment she felt panic at the sensation. Waited for his grip to tighten further. To begin what would be a futile process to suffocate her.
"You don't see, do you?"
See what? His face was in front of hers, then gone from her sight to kiss her throat. Her body quivered under him. Not in fear. Anticipation, yes. But only because some masochistic side of her now wanted to feel the pain that she had put him through. Moore's fingers slid into her hair and Rhiannon let out a small cry as he jerked her head to where he fancied, baring herself to him as he had for her. Willingly done for her. Her emotions were wavering. How much did he actually truly know? Everything seemed so uncertain...
"I'd be the death of you."
"If you were the last thing I saw I would die happy," she whimpered at the muted pain of him pulling her hair. "But I don't think you can kill me, Julian."
