He didn’t know why there had been such an urgency to leave.
The one thing Christian had been sure about was he needed to leave. The reason still had not settled with him yet but as he walked, he was sure it would come to him. With his cigarette slowly burning in his hand, he brought it up to his mouth for a long drag. Oh, that was the trick. His mind calmed as soon as he felt the nicotine working its magic on him. Then the question rose in his mind again, this time, he could not escape the answer. Upon seeing the young Agent Harle, Christian was impressed by the resume and the passion of the man. Most would not been able to see it from a file but Christian had.
Was it the simple fact that in the moment upon meeting him, he could not help but think that he was destined for more. Harle didn’t need him. He could have handled this case without the FBI but Christian wanted in. He needed to feel that he was important. Was Tyler his answer? He didn’t know. Upon hearing his name being called out, Christian had stopped dead in his tracks before turning on his heel. Could it be? Yes. Tyler was following him.
"Tyler? What are you doing? Christian questioned. He started closing the gap between the two agents.
Upon coming closer to him, Christian sucked a breath in. There was something about this young brunette he couldn’t deny, that he couldn’t turn away from. His rugged looks compared with the innocence of a young Agent. He couldn’t turn him away now. He needed him to stay, to make things better.
“We could be caught if we are seen together.” Christian whispered, dropping his cigarette into the snow bank beside them.

He noticed Tyler had taken a risk coming after him but he spoke nothing of it. It was not wise to linger any longer than he should. When the younger agent chided him, Christian almost let out an amused chuckle. A smile was soon followed by the urge to laugh when Tyler flashed one up at him. So young and so willing to take on the world. So long ago, Christian had been the same way when Geo had taken him underneath his wing in Russia. But what happened in Europe couldn’t be undone, and Christian would not make that same mistake twice.
“If you say so, Tyler.” Was all Christian managed to say before he was cut off by the younger agent with imperative news. As he listened, he forced himself not to look at Agent Klein so that nothing would be given away. He wasn’t sure who this Agent Klein was but there was no one in the NYC branch by that name unless they just transferred in that morning.
“Thank you.” Christian mustered, as he looked down one side of the road. “Take care of yourself until then…I would hate…for anything to happen to you.”
He couldn’t hate him for being who he was. Christian hated the fact that he saw so much of himself in Tyler that it bothered him. He hoped his career would turn out for the best. Even if Christian’s was over with. “Go now…before he starts to get suspicious. And…give me a call if you need anything.” Christian added on before turning on his heel to part in a separate direction.
And to walk away as if nothing changed…
